Eine kurze Geschichte von Newscron, Niuws und Scope:

2011: Elia Palme entwickelt als Forschungsprojekt im Rahmen seiner ETH-Dissertation eine Aggregator-App, zunächst Nüwsli genannt, dann Newscron. Mit der App können Nutzer ihre persönliche Zeitung zusammenstellen: Sie sucht aus über 250 in- und ausländischen Zeitungstiteln nur die News, die den User interessieren könnten. Diese können eingegeben, aus welcher Region und aus welcher Sparte sie Neuigkeiten erhalten möchten.

2012: Zusammen mit Roberto Prato und Patrick Lardi gründet Elia im Herbst 2012 die Newscron SA in Lugano. Die Firma wird unterstützt von mehreren privaten Tessiner Investoren.

2013: Newscron gewinnt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen für ihre Technologie, unter anderem den renommierten und mit CHF 100’000 dotierten De-Vigier-Preis.

2014: Im Januar erhält Newscron in einer neuen Finanzierungsrunde von einem Zürcher Netzwerk von Business Angels einen namhaften Betrag. Der Verwaltungsrat wird neu besetzt. Im weiteren Verlauf des Jahres stellt sich jedoch heraus, dass das ursprünglich geplante «Freemium»-Businessmodell für die Newscron-App nicht trägt, da die kostenpflichtige Premium-Version zu wenig gekauft wird. Nach einem Review der Strategie entscheidet der Verwaltungsrat, das Angebot auf Basis der bestehenden Technologie um Handkuratierung durch Experten zu erweitern.

2015: Im Januar wird die App «Niuws» mit 15 Kuratorinnen und Kuratoren lanciert, die jeweils eine themenspezifische «Box» kuratieren. Die Anzahl steigt bis Ende des Jahres auf rund 50.

2016: Peter Hogenkamp übernimmt Ende Februar die Mehrheit der Aktien. Elia Palme wiederum übernimmt privat die ursprüngliche Newscron-App. Im Mai zieht die Firma nach Zürich um und bezieht ein Büro an der Rötelstrasse 15. Das Produkt «Niuws», inzwischen nicht mehr nur eine App, sondern auf diversen Plattformen verfügbar, wird in «Scope» (thescope.com) umbenannt. Im September wird auch die Firma selbst in «Scope Content AG» umbenannt und eine von Grund auf neu konzipierte, responsive Website gelauncht.

2017: Die Firma fokussiert vor allem auf das B2B-Geschäft, also die Lizenzierung der Kuratier-Software an Firmen und Organisationen, wo sie diverse namhafte Kunden gewinnen kann. Im August zieht sie 300 m weiter in ein neues Büro an der Weinbergstrasse 137.
